Dirk is now working for National Transportation Training & Consulting, LLC in Spokane, Washington where he is the Director of Admissions. Dirk sells training for Commercial Driver Licenses (the BIG RIGS)to the public. In addition, his responsibilities include job placement and class administration. Many government programs are sending students to the school because of the need for truck drivers in US. Dirk seems to be doing something with his laptop computer all the time whether for work or leisure. Dirk and his mother Eleanor are active at Bethany Presbyterian Church where Dirk has served in the past as an elder. Dirk was one of two major people who organized the Bethany Silent Auction that raised over $3500 for the church's general fund in the last 2 years. Through the local regional body of the church, (the Presbytery of the Inland Northwest), Bethany supports ongoing missions for education, nutrition, and health among the K'ichee of Guatemala. The congregation is also very active in social justice issues. Dirk's other passions are outdoor grilling and his annual obsession with Christmas lights. Eleanor lives across town at the beautiful Park Place Community, and shares Sunday dinner with the family every other week. Dirk's younger brother Tom comes to visit periodically. All three enjoy his visits.

Anne is taking care of Stephen full-time at home. Since the accident back in 1988 that left Stephen non-ambulatory, Anne has been Steve's caregiver providing for his basic and medical needs daily. In addition, she is providing day care for Grandson Noah a couple days each week. Noah continues to be a joy to his grandparents as he grows into a very smart young man. Noah's big brother Cameron plays hockey, snowboards, and likes the computer. Rusty (the dog, a Vizsla) is Anne's constant companion as she tends to the house and garden in addition to all her other duties. Rusty joined the family in February of 2002 as a year old puppy from the pound. Because of the difficulty of transporting Steve to family events, most of the birthday and holiday celebrations are held at Dirk & Anne's home. Anne is quite accomplished at pulling off wonderful events with great food. After a hectic day jugggling all her responsibities, Anne relaxes by reading novels. Some of her favorite authors are Stephen King, Dean Kootz, and James Patterson. Anne also has the green thumb and the eye for landscaping that has converted the yard into what the neighbors call "The Park". Anne and Dirk get to escape together periodically while Anne's mother, Ramona, takes care of Steve so they can get out together. Ramona conveniently lives three doors down the street. Her dog Princess is Rusty's favorite canine companion.
